Scientific Associates, LLC (SA) developed the PureShrimpTM Recirculating Aquaculture Systems for many reasons:

  • Raise marine species in salt water
  • Improve efficiency of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS)
  • Reduce discharge to near-zero levels
  • Build systems that are scalable
  • Ensure systems could be located anywhere, in any climate
  • Eliminate dependence on natural marine water sources
  • Ensure systems are environmentally friendly
  • Ensure traceability for entire life cycle
  • Increase biosecurity
  • Raise species in "clean" water systems
  • Eliminate risk of escapes
  • Use denitrification technology to eliminate the concerns and limitations of heterotrophic (biofloc) systems
  • Use RAS in both grow out and hatchery systems
  • Produce fresh shrimp that is antibiotic, additive and preservative free.

To prove and refine the PureShrimpTM Recirculating Aquaculture Systems, SA used penaeid shrimp species native to the Florida peninsula, p. setiferus and l. duorarum. This allowed the adult shrimp that were produced to be sold in the local market for live bait. As no other commercial entity had spawned these species, SA has made groundbreaking advancements in the breeding of both p. setiferus and l. duorarum. Not only was the species unique, but also adapting recirculating technology to hatchery operations was previously unheard of in aquaculture.

Once the system had been proven for local species, SA added the popular consumer food shrimp species p. vannamei to their hatchery operations. SA currently produces both p. vannamei and p. setiferus in both hatchery and grow-out pilot systems.

Our "clean water" closed recirculating system utilizes SA's patented technology, as well as trade secrets to maintain superior water quality with near zero discharge. The technology is used in both the hatchery and grow out operations. Our clear water environment produces a difference you can taste.
